Hi friends!

I am almost sure that you have already decorated your christmas tree, or the Windows of your house.

These are activities that became part of our culture since a long time ago.

It´s so interesting and exciting at the same time, because this season is the most emotive part of the year, it´s time to share with the people you love the most.

But, how do ticos preparate themselves for receiving christmas?

Well, the answer you can find it very easy. Ticos usually decorate their houses with some wreath and lights on the Windows. Also as family, they usually put some color balls on the tree, combinated with lights and flowers…

“El Portal” (the simulation of the Jesus birthday through Little figures) is something essencial; families in CR usually meet to build “the Portal” together as a tradition, it´s something valuable for them.

Also, previous days to Christmas people do “Posadas” that consist in people specifically children that dress like María and José asking for worm place, reminding the history of Jesus birthday.

The “tamales” that are the favorite food in Christmas days is so important for ticos. Almost in every house families cook Tamales for celebrating Christmas.

But the most important tradition is to be with your family and friends, enjoy with them and share with the mos needed people.

Interview: What traditions people like the most!.

Hello everyone! today is December 1st, for that reason we want to wish you a happy military abolition day if you remember we posted something about it a few days ago..

Today we wanted to interview some people and ask them what kind of traditions they like the most because we think is important to have in our blog other people’s opinion.

Something that we really liked is that when we asked these people about what traditions they like the most, we could see in their faces a smile at the moment they started to talk.

Traditions have always been there in our history and it is up to you if you want to keep them or not, but remember that traditions make what we are today and we cannot ignore them.

Benefits of transmiting our culture to the new generations.

As you may know, there are a lot of reasons of why it is important to keep our culture and traditions. But, what do we gain, if we don´t teach to the new generations these important things? We must tell them who we are and where we are coming from. This is essential if we want to see reflected in our children the values, specifically the respect for our past and identity.

Try not only to read and teach them that it is important; put into practice the traditions that you have learned like playing traditional games, or Reading legends, or “cooking tortillas”... In this way, these children are going to become in the society that we want to see.

Here we are going to mention some of them:

· Create a closer relationship among parents and children.

· Protect our identity.

· Maintain the values present in the families (because the person who shows his values is a better person.)

· Create an environment where people can enjoy a healthy time with their relatives or friends.

· Supporting the local producers.

· Reducing the pollution.

Now you know the importance of keeping our traditions. Try to put them into practice and enjoy a good time with the people you love the most.

December 1st: The Army Abolition Day!

Hello friends! December is in the corner, and a lot of festivities are coming as Christmas and the celebration of the new year but did you know that on December 1st is the military abolition day and it is a special day in our history, so we have to celebrate it because we are part of this nation.

Story of the Army Abolition.

Costa Rica has been identified around the world as a peaceful nation due to the abolition of the military forces in our country since 1948. In those years after the civil war the president in that moment who was José Figueres Ferrer decided to abolish the army because he considered that it was no necessary for the country due to that Costa Rica already has the police in those years and even though Costa Rica has not military forces some nations as the government of United State are willing to help with their military sources just in case Costa Rica will need it.

The president Oscar Arias Sanchez decided to choose a special day for this important fact for that reason he declared in the year 1985, December 1st as the army abolition day.

Something that is important to mention is that the abolish of the army in Costa Rica is a really important fact in the history of our country because it allowed the government to invest more resources in other things that required more attention like education, culture and health, which undoubtedly helped the country to grow and this is something that makes me feel proud, because the country that invest more in education not only will ensure the well being of its people, but also a better future for its following generations.

We should celebrate this day with joy for being part of this peaceful country named Costa Rica, a little piece of land in the world but with people with a big heart and this is what identifies Costa Rica, its people.
