Did you know that Manatees are one of the Costa Rican national symbols?

Maybe you don´t know so much about this specie, for that, we decided to share with you the following information about them.

Manatees are large, aquatic, and herbivorus. Some times they are known as sea cows. They measure 4.0 metres long, and they weigh normally 590 kilograms and have paddle-like flippers.
They live near to the American and African coasts. They feed is about sea plants that belong to shallow depth. The only threat or predator that they have are the humans.  In Costa Rica they live close to Barra del Colorado and Tortuguero, where they eat the plants that grow near to the shore.

Now, why are we talking about them?

It´s because Manatees are one of our national symbols, and as one of them, we must pay atention and be aware about them. They became a national symbol since july 15th in 2014, when some students from the Barrio Limoncito School fought for impulsing their preservation, because this specie is in danger of extintion.

Try to be part of this group of Ticos that want to preserve our planet protecting the nature and the animals that make this country to look as beautiful as it is.
