Hi fellows! today's post is about the Independence Day and how we celebrate this important day in our country in order for you to continue this amazing tradition.
Costa Rica’s independence day is celebrated on September 15th every year. It is an official holiday in our country in where we as a citizens celebrate with joy our freedom. We start the morning of September 15th singing our National Anthem on the streets and after that students from primary schools and high schools start a parade with bands and traditional dances showing the happiness of being free.
Also in the civic week the students have to prepare a handmade lantern for the night of September 14th because it symbolize when the notice of the independence arrived to our country, despite the fact that Costa Ricans received this notice one month later the government decided to celebrate it on September 14th.
Through the years people are changing this tradition because they prefer to buy the lantern instead of make one, which is a shame because they are not aware about the damage that they can cause to our roots, we should as a citizens of this country think twice about this because it can save us time, but in the long run it is going to affect us for sure, we must teach our children the importance of hold our own traditions and also we have to teach them how to create a lantern with their hands and how funny it could be, but on the top of that the most important thing that we have to teach them is that we have to promote our traditions and to we have to feel proud about it.
