Today we decided to share with you the meaning of our national anthem for us because we think it is an important part of our traditions, we hope you like it.How important is the National Anthem for you? I think the answer is very important because it shows our identity and our joy of being free.
Our National Anthem was composed in 1853 by Manuel María Gutiérrez and it was first played at the presidential palace on june 11th, in the same year. It was created because lots of Costa Ricans were requesting to the government a song that will show our democracy and also because in that year ambassadors from United States and Great Britain were traveling to our country so for that reason the president in that moment wanted to give them a warm welcome singing our own national anthem. The music of our national anthem shows union, solidarity and peace and which is pretty much what "Ticos" are.
Something that is important to mention is that the lyrics of our national anthem do not talk about wars, weapons or military actions, we show through our anthem the strength of the people who are born in this majestic country through our hard work and the love we feel for this land.
In the majority of the schools in Costa Rica to sing the national anthem every day in the morning has become a tradition because through it teachers teach theirs students a feeling of patriotism and to love the country were they born and I think it is very important because we have to teach our children the importance of belong to this country and the wealth we have behind our culture and for that reason we have to feel very proud and sing our national anthem as loud as we can.
