Important things you should know about Costa Rica and its people!

Hi dear followers! today I am more than glad to share with you this useful information about our country. if you are  from Costa Rica maybe you would feel very identified with this but if you are not a "tico" this information will be very interesting for you if you are planning to visit this beautiful country!

  1. Why we are called "ticos": It is because we always use the diminutive  "tico" at the end of the most of the words. For example -un poco- means a little in English and the typical diminutive is -un poquito-( a little bit) but we instead of that we say -un poquitico-.
  2. We often refer to our couple as our "media naranja": which means your other half our your soul mate.
  3. "Pura Vida" is our most common expression to give a greeting: Costa Ricans usually say "Pura Vida" as an answer when someone ask how they are, and also it is a synonym of hello.
  4. "Mae" is a slang term we use to refer to a friend: when we are having a conversation we usually use this term especially among friends and young people.
  5. Costa Ricans diet: rice, beans, vegetables, meat, chicken, eggs and salads are our most traditional meals, and we often eat three times per day.
  6. Costa Ricas  official language is Spanish: even though  English has become the most common second language in our country due to of the big amount of tourists that arrive here every day.
It is a little bit of our culture and what we are, and I am so proud to say that I am from Costa Rica.
